Posting on behalf of my friend Larry Kolthoff:

Our Story
My name is Larry Kolthoff and on January 4th 2010 a really good friend of 10 years was diagnosed with Stage 2B Breast Cancer at Memorial Sloan- Kettering Cancer Center in New York City.  My first initial reaction was how can something like this happen to someone soo Sweet, Caring, and Loving?  I mean it really does seem as if bad things really happen to good people.  I didn’t understand it and neither did she, but we agreed to fight this thing and solider on with full force and believing that God was on our Side.  Sharon has no immediate family and was living in Portland, OR alone before she came to New York City in 2009 and started work at a sales company here in Nyc.  She has been fighting this fight for over a year now and and it has had a tremendous effect on her personal and financial situation.  After starting her job and making around $35,000 starting pay, she had to quit her job because she no longer had the energy to still work and since she had only been at her job for 5 months she was ineligible for unemployment benefits.  Sharon has absolutely no health care coverage and I am helping her in any way I possible can, the cost of her treatment has been very challenging to us and we have been reaching out to anyone who would be willing to help including charitable organizations which by the grace of god have helped cover a good portion of her expenses, in August of 2010 she decided to go ahead and have the Lumpectomy done which removed half of her right breast.  Ever since she has been receiving 2 day a week cycles of chemotherapy and she is currently well into over a Hundred thousand dollars for her treatment which included Surgery, Chemo sessions and Drug medication costs which we managed to pay 80 percent of with the help of her Generous Community and Non- Profits.  We have been reaching out to anyone who is willing to help her and have been having local bake sales here in NYC to help cover her costs as well, and that’s not even factoring in personal expenses bills etc, so it’s pretty rough for her.  Throughout it all Sharon has been in High Spirits she can no longer enjoy certain activities she used to but her faith in God has been unshakable and we are praying every day that she will make it through.

The Impact
The money raised here with tremendously help out with the costs of future chemotherapy sessions which is currently on going 2 days a week as I stated earlier, and will lift the weight off of our shoulders in terms of organizing events in our community, Sharon has no Health Insurance and we have been in this fight raising money since day one.  We understand that we are in this for the long run financially and have pretty much exhausted most of our resources and energy.

What We Need & What You Get
Our goal is $5000 US Dollars which will cover the cost of her Nuelasta Shot for 2 months which she receives after each chemotherapy session to Boost her White Blood Cell Count we receive bills in the Mail for the Chemo treatment payments but we were informed that the shot is not provided unless we pay upfront and I want to help give her every possible chance of beating this disease I can, So just knowing she will have a 2 month supply will be a huge stress reliever.  I will provide pictures of the Receipts for the Drug and as well as the Chemo Bill so you can be assured where the Money is actually being Spent.  As well as continuously update you on her progress and can even arrange for you to speak with her to anyone who would like to share some encouraging words.
